The Committee of Public Safety was created in July 1793 and main purpose was protecting the newly established republic against attacks from other countries and internal rebellion. As a wartime precaution, the Committee made of twelve, members was given control over military, judicial, and legislative matters. The leader of the committee for a while was Georges Danton. in 1793 the leader of the Jacobins (radicals) Maximilien Robespierre beheads all his political enemies including danton which starts the reign of terror and was added to the Committee as the leader under the leadership of Robespierre between August 1793 and July 1794, The power of the Committee was at its highest point. In July 1794 Robespierre was executed which represented a period of revolt against the Committee of Public Safety, this is known as the Thermidorian Reaction, as Robespierre's loss of power happened during the Revolutionary month of Thermidor (the second month of the summer on the Revolutionary calendar). The Committee's influence diminished, and it was undone in 1795.
