The French revolution began in 1789 because of the unfair tax code to the third estate and little rights and ended in the late 1790s along with the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. During this time French citizens demolished and reformed their country’s political influence, changing old ideas such as absolute monarchy and the estates. Like the American Revolution before it, the French Revolution was influenced by Enlightenment ideas, mostly the thoughts of popular sovereignty and inalienable rights. Although it failed to complete all of those goals and sometimes collapsed into a chaotic massacre, the effort had a major influential role in modern nations by showing the world the natural power of the people as a result of the revolution America doubled their country’s size because of the Louisiana purchase and France saw the end of the estates and even though they didn’t get rid of absolute monarchy they had a changed view on it.
